Students must be 15 years old by the first day of class to enroll into that class cycle. No exceptions. Adults 18 years and older can enroll into the Drivers Ed course either in-person or online.

The dates listed for the course are for the classroom instruction only. Students must schedule their drives outside of the classroom instruction. We encourage students to schedule 1 drive every 2-3 weeks to allow time for 5-10hours of at-home practice between driving lessons. This significantly improves the student pass rate on the driving exam.

Driving lessons are self-paced with students usually completing the course anywhere from 3 months - a 1 year. The summer is our busiest year so encourage students to take advantage of our slower season to schedule lessons.

APPLY FOR A PERMIT

If you have a Washington State ID card: Please email us the “WA ID Number” from the ID and we will submit a permit waiver to the DOL. The waiver allows you to get your permit 10 days before class without taking the State knowledge exam.

If you do NOT have a Washington State ID card:

1. Please pre-apply online at: http://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/preapply.html

2. When you are done with the pre-application, you will receive an email with a confirmation code.

3. Next, log into License eXpress to access your ID number. It starts with “WDL.”

4. Email us that ID number and we will submit a permit waiver that allows you to get your permit 10 days before the start of class.??

GET THE PERMIT

The DOL currently issues two types of permit.

• Type 1: Non-Photo Permit (which must be paired with separate photo ID)

• Type 2: Photo ID Permit (the “usual” permit)

State law allows you to miss a maximum of 3 classes, but you will need to make those up. You do not need to notify us if you will miss a class.? But remember, you do need to make up that class! More information about making up a class will be provided on the first day.

Scheduling student drives typically starts after classroom sessions are completed but can begin as soon as students have their permits and 10hrs of at-home practice.

It's recommended to schedule the observation drive before beginning drive lessons. It is a requirement in addition to the 5 lessons to receive a course completion. The 5 driving lessons should be spread out with 2-3 weeks in between to allow students the opportunity to practice between lessons. Students who take several weeks to practice, between driving lessons, have a higher pass rate on the driving exam.

If you are enrolled in Teen Drivers Ed, and ready to book a driving lesson please follow these steps.

• Log into your account

• Click on the “Driving Lessons” link

• Choose the “Driving Lesson – 60 minutes” option

• Find a time that is convenient for you and book your driving lesson using one of the five drive vouchers that will appear in your account once you complete your classroom sessions.

Please make note of the following important information:

• The observation drive is the one service that must be scheduled through our Office Manager.

• Observation drives have temporarily been cancelled by the Department of Licensing as a safety precaution against the spreading Covid-19. If and when observation drives are allowed, we will notify all current students at that time via email and/or text.

• You must have your learners permit before your schedule your first driving lesson.

• You must have your permit on you at the time of your driving lesson. If you do not have your permit, we will be forced to reschedule the lesson and you will be charged a cancelation fee.

Please ensure that you are log into your account in our booking platform. All available time will be shown under their service category starting with the soonest available times. If no times are available, then our instructors are fully booked. New drive times are released to the public every week on Thursdays with cancellations opening back on the website immediately.

If instructors have additional availability, drive times will be opened additionally throughout the week. We encourage customers to look often for new times.

This is not an option at this moment but we aim to make it possible in the near future for Drivers Ed students to be able to sign up for classes classes at one 405 Driving School location and schedule drives and/or exams at a different 405 location.

Currently, we ask that students schedule the one-on-one drive and written exam portion of their Drivers Ed course at the location they signed up for their classroom sessions.

Drivers Ed Course Cancellation

Driver's Ed Class Cancellations will incur a $150 cancellation fee. Cancellation on or after the first day of class will result in automatic forfeiture of the entire payment amount.

Driving Lesson Cancellation

Driving lessons must be cancelled or rescheduled AT LEAST 24 hours before the time of your scheduled driving lesson or you will incur a $50 fee. If you do not show up for your drive appointment, you forfeit your voucher for that lesson and you will need to purchase a replacement driving lesson in order to meet the required 5 hours of behind the wheel driving for the Drivers Education course.

Please arrive 5 – 10 minutes before the start of your driving lesson so that you are ready to start the lesson right at the start of your scheduled appointment.

If you are 10 min. late for an appointment, we will try to accommodate you if possible. If we cannot work you in, you will need to book another appointment and will be charged the $50 cancelation fee.

For example: If you show up at 2:10 for a 60 minute driving lesson that was supposed to start at 2:00, and the instructor has another student driving lesson scheduled at 3:00, then we can not deliver the 60 minute lesson. Therefore your appointment would be forfeit and you would need to book another appointment and will be charged the $50 cancelation fee.
